Internship
Opportunities:
The
Child Witness to Violence Project has a diverse staff including
social workers, licensed psychologists, licensed mental health
counselors, early childhood specialists, an attorney, and
a consulting developmental and behavioral pediatrician. Internship
opportunities are available for second year graduate students
in social work and mental health programs.
Prerequisites
The internship training experience is especially well-suited
for 2nd year master's level students with interests in working
with young children (0-8) and families affected by domestic
violence and/or community violence using a range of treatment
modalities that include parent/child psychotherapy, play therapy,
family therapy, and parent guidance. We are particularly interested
in working with students who have some previous experience
in early child development and/or domestic violence programs,
are able to devote 20-24 hours each week for a full academic
year, and are interested in working with diverse ethnic populations.
Our program serves a multicultural, inner city population
and therefore, applications from students whose ethnic/cultural
background and language skills reflect that of our clientele
are strongly encouraged.
Internship

addition to carrying a clinical caseload, trainees will receive
weekly individual supervision and participate in training/seminars
on pertinent clinical topics. Trainees will also have an opportunity
to participate in clinical team meetings, case presentation,
and our intake clinic. Other training opportunities may be
available based on a trainee's interests and availability
of staff to coordinate such activities.
