Interns
Internship Opportunities
The Child Witness to Violence Project has a diverse staff including social workers, licensed psychologists, licensed mental health counselors, early childhood specialists, and a consulting developmental and behavioral pediatrician. Internship opportunities are available for second year graduate students in social work, psychology and other mental health programs. We do not offer practicum opportunities.
Prerequisites
The internship training experience is well-suited for 2nd year master’s level students with at least one year of previous internship or experience in trauma or early childhood. Applicants should have interests in working with young children (0–8) and families affected by domestic violence and/or community violence using a range of treatment modalities that include child-parent psychotherapy, play therapy, family therapy, and parent guidance. We are interested in working with students who are able to devote 20–24 hours each week for a full academic year, or 16 hours a week for a full year, and are interested in working with diverse ethnic populations. Our program serves a multicultural, inner-city population and therefore, applications from students whose ethnic/cultural background and language skills reflect that of our clients are strongly encouraged.
Internship Description
In addition to carrying a clinical caseload, trainees will receive weekly individual supervision and participate in training/seminars on pertinent clinical topics. Trainees will participate in clinical team meetings, case presentations, and our intake clinic. Other training opportunities may be available based on a trainee’s interests and availability of staff to coordinate such activities.
How to Apply
Letters of interest and resumes must be received by February 1st of the year prior to the internship. Please mail hard copies of all resumes and cover letters to:
