- The Child Witness to Violence
Project will be offering a support group at the Boston Medical
Center for children who have been affected by domestic violence.
-
This ten week program will include a therapeutic group for
children ages 3-11 and a concurrent mother's support group.
It will be held on Wednesdays, from 5:30-7:00pm beginning
on February 7, 2001. THE GROUP IS FREE OF CHARGE. To

- The Dorchester District Court,
Dorchester, Massachusetts has launched a new court session
dedicated solely to domestic violence cases.

This $1.9 million pilot project is funded by the Department
of Justice. Under Judge Sidney Hanlon, the court will conduct
all arraignments, hearings, probation reviews and hear all
restraining orders. Similar courts are planned for Milwaukee,
Wisconsin and Ann Arbor, Michigan, which also won Judicial
Oversight Demonstration grants under the Violence Against
Women Act (Boston Globe, 9/8/2000)
- There has been a decline in
domestic violence.

In Intimate Partner Violence, Callie Marie Rennison
and Sarah Welchans conclude that the United States has made
considerable progress in reducing domestic violence through

- Cruelty to animals is linked
to domestic violence:
-
A study by Frank Ascione of Utah University finds a strong
association between those who batter and those who hurt or
kill pets. In another study, not yet published, he found that
victims of child abuse are more likely to harm animals.

Frank Ascione's Safe Havens for Pets: Guidelines for Programs
Sheltering Pets for Women Who Are Battered is available
free to any domestic violence or animal welfare agency. Send

The National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges convened
an Advisory Committee to draft recommendations developed by
Susan Schecter and Jeffrey Edleson. Those recommendations
can be found in their publication Effective Intervention
in Domestic Violence and Child Maltreatment Cases: Guidelines
for Policy and Practice. A copy may be acquired free by
